These past
few years, social media has changed the way people find and spread information
as well as news, making it a lot easier for news industries to target
particular populations. Websites such as Buzz feed are getting more and more
famous as their aim is not only to write news stories, but also to create new entertainment,
with the use for example of cat videos and cute puppies. However, Buzz feed
raises an issue which is whether it is a reliable source or not. According to
an article published by Megan Poczos in the University of Wisconsin’s the
Racquet, she stated that “A lot of articles posted on buzz feed are opinion
based articles”(Poczos, 2015).With that statement, she makes it clear
that most of the website’s content is unreliable because opinion pieces are not
objective. Therefore, the reader gets a point of view on a story rather than
the actual retelling of it. An example of this is that someone could write who
they think will win the presidential election, and who they like better instead
of finding the facts and evidence to actually prove their point.
