The data below by FBI, Supplementary Homicide Reports, covering the period between 1976-2004 show the number of males and females killed at home in America. The figures show that at least 64,329 people were killed between this period, 23506 of them being male and 40823 female. An indication that probably women are more prone to acts of domestic violence than men.
There are so many types of domestic violence that we can not discuss all of them and the victims are as many a there are people living together. However women and children and children are more vulnerable than any other group. This is so probably because they are weaker physically a factor that increase their vulnerability. More wives experience violence from their husbands than husbands do from their wives.
On the other hand step-children are likely to experience more violence from their step-parents than are those children with real parents.Child abuse is doing something or failing to do something that results in harm to a child or puts a child at risk of harm. Child abuse can be physical, sexual or emotional. Neglect, or not providing for a child’s needs, is also a form of abuse. The frustration of women denying children the rights to equal time with both parents for no more than financial gain increases their risk to violence and is an extremely violent act on both men and children. Most abused children suffer greater emotional than physical damage. An abused child may become depressed.
He or she may withdraw, think of suicide or become violent. An older child may use drugs or alcohol, try to run away or abuse others. The types range from spiritual to economic to physical while others include psychological and the more common sexual violence.
In fact it is undisputed that one form of violence will always lead to another.
