A Raisin in the Sun is a narrative of the Younger Family covering with racial jobs in Chicago slums. Ten thousand dollars arrives in the mail and Lena has to make up one’s mind what to make with it. Bennie wants it for tuition money. Walter wants it for down payment for the cordial shop and Ruth merely wants everyone to be happy. So there is three major events go oning: ( 1 ) Lena decides to purchase a house in a white vicinity. ( 2 ) Lena entrusts the remainder of the money to Walter stating him to salvage a good sum for Beneatha’s schooling and ( 3 ) Walter loses all the money in the spirits shop cozenage. In all these quandaries Lena has a works that she negotiations and takes attention of it through out the narrative. Mama’s works symbolizes hope for the hereafter. In act one scene one Mama says “ Lord. if this small old works don’t acquire more Sun than it’s been acquiring it ain’t ne’er traveling to see spring once more. ( Hansberry. 40 ) ” In the beginning that the workss needs Sun because its in a room with a small window and Mama worries that it will non jump so it shows that even thought it does non hold adequate Sun and it is still lasting so it wants to keeping because it knows it will be in a better topographic point and go stronger in the hereafter. In act one scene one Mama says “They spirited all right. my kids. Got to acknowledge they got spirit- Bennie and Walter. . Like this small old works that ain’t ne’er had adequate sunlight or nil – and expression at it… ( Hansberry. 52 ) ” Mama Knows that Bennie and Walter are strong and make non merely give up like that works which shows hope for the hereafter for both them to keep out for that dirt and that house even thought it has racism they can acquire through it like the works without the Sun. Beneath: “Mama. what are you making? ” Mama: “ Repairing my works so it won’t acquire hurt none on the way…” Beneatha: Mama. you traveling to take that to the new house? ( Hansberry. 121 ) ” Mama: ”un-huh-” Beneatha: “ that raggedy-looking old thing? ” Mama: It EXPRESSES ME! ” Even thought Beneath Tells Mama how the works is old and worthless she knows that expresses her. Mama’s works does non typify anything because all she negotiations about is acquiring the garden since all she has is one works so she says the houses in her vicinity have their garden. “well. I ever wanted me a garden like I used to see sometimes at the dorsum of the houses down place. This works is near as I of all time got to holding one. ( Hansberry. 53 ) ” Lena merely wanted to hold a garden since she could non hold one when she was small because she was a slave. So that works is the closest thing she of all time had to a garden. Although some may be able to reason that Mama’s works does non typify anything because she merely wants a garden with her house. She wants a garden and that works is the lone thing she can hold but it does intend the works symbolizes hope because she treats the works like one of her kids she nurtures it and wants to take it to a new house to populate. Mama’s works is hope for the hereafter because it thrived or lived through non holding a batch of visible radiation through that little window in the flat merely like the household went through racism.
