Attributions areinferences that people draw about the causes of events, others’ behavior, andtheir own behavior.(McLeod, S. A,2016) There are two types of attribution, internal and external.
These attributes are assumptions made to one’s behavior.Internal attributions are assumptions made from the traits and disposition of aperson and external attributions are assumptions made based on the environmentone is in. Both attribution plays a large part in explaining one’s cause of behavior. Singaporekindness movement is a campaign that aims to promote kindness and graciousnessamong Singaporeans.
This campaign regardless of race, language or religion, everyone in Singapore come together to build kindness and spread kindness tothe community. Through this campaign, the attribution theory can be applied. This campaign focuses on how kindness is up to us. External attribution plays apart in this campaign. Singaporeans make external attribution when faced with acommon unfriendly scene. An example, customers verbally abusing a servicestaff.
The attribution made will then play a part in helping Singaporeans makea decision whether to step in and intervene the situation, displaying an act ofkindness. Displaying an act of kindness is what this campaign aims to promotewithin Singaporeans. Therefore, making external attribution does indeed play apart in helping to promote this campaign. Another campaignis Plaster the Silence Campaign. This campaign raise the awareness of suicideby wearing a black plaster which ask “How are you”. This plaster encourages Singaporeans to starta conversation and talk about their feelings.
How someone feels is an internalattribute. Therefore this shows that the campaign effectively uses internalattribute to infer that how someone feels is the main causes of suicide to comeup with the black plaster as a conversation starter.
