          This study utilized a phenomenological
method, to highlight the lived experiences of single mother in raising their
children and sought to identify and understand their coping strategies.

Lester,
(2011), stated that a qualitative research method intended to understand the
peoples’ experiences, perspective, and understanding of a particular situation and
through the description provided by the people that were involved in the study.
This study normally translates into gathering data, deep information and perceptions
such as interviews, discussions.

However,
this study was intended to describe and to interpret the lived experiences and
coping strategies of single mothers in raising their children using deep and
inductive thoughts.

Research

9 Malaybalay City Bukidnon. Malaybalay City has 46 barangays. It includes
Barangay 9, that consist, of 8 Purok with an estimated total population of
9,022 residents. Some people living in Barangay 9 are considered part of
diverse  ethnic groups in the Philippines.
These are, Cebuanos, Ilonggos, Warays, and
Muslims. Barangay 9 was one of the 20 Barangays created during the Marcos
Regime under the declaration of Martial Law by virtue of Presidential Decree 86
and 86-A.Under the administration of the late Hon. Mayor Timoteo C. Ocaya, the
Municipal Council passed resolutions number 246-74 and 294-74 and Implementing
Ordinance No. 87-74 by reducing the number of barangays from 20 to eleven
barangays. The merging of some barangays affected the political boundaries such
that Barangay 16 became Barangay 9. Despite the diversity of culture, the
people live in unity and peace, observing and respecting their own different
cultures. Majority of the people are Muslims and Christians.

In
terms of livelihood, majority have micro-enterprises like sari-sari store, carenderia,
and junkshop. Some of them preferred motorela driving as part of their
livelihood and as a way of transportation. Majority of Barangay 9 residents are
Muslims, and the Barangay is considered as the Islamic center in Bukidnon. The
Bus terminal and the Market are also found in Barangay 9.
