Chapter 28. How I the employment relationship that is typical of modern organizations different from the relationship of a generation ago?A generation ago, they had psychological contract that in a nutshell was if you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours. Organization and companies expected that their employees would be loyal, show up to work on time, put in the effort, and contribute their skills and abilities. In return, the organization or company would reward their employees with opportunities to learn and grow, advance within the company, and overall job security. In today’s relationships, things aren’t so straight forward. Organizations and companies now want more out of their employees without getting the job security and potential advancements. Employees are now expected to be more responsible for themselves when it comes to training, uniforms, advancements, and even balancing their work and family life.
9. Discuss several advantages of flexible work schedules. What are some disadvantages? There are several advantages of a flexible work schedule in the workplace. The first one would be the obvious choice of more free time. This gives you more time throughout the week for doctors’ appointments, grocery shopping, or going to the gym. Another advantage is giving you different times to work that will help fit your schedule.
For example, if someone is a single parent and their child gets on the school bus at 8:30 a.m., they would not be able to work a shift starting at 7:00 a.m. Also, being able to pick your schedule eases pressure for you and your family.
I am a full time student and can only pick jobs that have flex schedules. I cannot express to you what a relief it is to know I have the option of working any schedule I want, and I can change my schedule every quarter to fit my school’s schedule. Lastly, it is cost effective. This helps save you time and money by cutting down on the commuting time and gasoline costs.
Any time you can save money must mean it’s a good thing. Even though there are some great advantages to a flex schedule, there are some disadvantages. The first disadvantage has a saying that goes “When you give someone an inch, but they take a mile.” An example would be if you gave them permission to work from home but while working, they are on social media or watching television. I would assume that this is not what your boss had in mind when he said you can work from home.
Another disadvantage is your boss might get the idea that you owe them for giving you a flexible schedule. They might think because he gave you they day off from the office, that you will come in next week for more days than normal. The last disadvantage would be your efforts cannot be documented.
There is no physical proof of how hard you worked that day, so your efforts could go unnoticed. https://brainmass.com/business/human-resources-management/relationships-in-organizations-296308https://www.thebalance.com/advantages-and-disadvantages-of-flexible-work-schedules-1917964Noe, R.

Companies know that sometimes OSHA’s penalties are minor; therefore, they do not change or improve their safety regulations. Companies should not take this lightly and should want to protect their employees. This affects the employees for many reasons.
First, this affects their safety. If there are not any safety regulations put in place, employees may not return to a company if they do not feel protected. On the topic of talking about not returning to work, this affects the employees and their families. Many families today rely on their jobs to put food on their table. If they cannot return to work because of safety reasons, this could have a huge negative impact on their home life. Finally, employees that are not aware of the safety and health hazards of a job could be seriously injured or permanently injured.
This could affect a person for the rest of their life in building their career and having the possibility of retiring.9. How can organizations motivate employees to promote safety and health in the workplace?Employers do not want to see anyone get hurt, so beyond the OSHA Act they will promote safety awareness programs for their employees. In doing this, employers hope to instill how important safety is to everyone involved. There are three primary components to a safety awareness program and they are encouraging safety internationally, strengthening safe practices, and identifying and communicating hazards in the workplace.
When gathering and evaluating data, it turns out that these three components together can be more effective in today’s methods. Employees can be motivated by having their employers be involved in the process of determining how to promote safety. They can do that by sitting down as a team to discuss potential problems relating to safety, and how they can solve those problems. https://webapps.dol.
