Culture and interpersonal Communication (Chapter 2) The culture specifies the lifestyle and behaviour of the people. The lifestyle and behaviour act a major role in career goals and school goals. Attitude, discipline and behaviour reflects the person you are. Interpersonal communication is how you actually talk, respect and obey a person with words and action.
Respect is something that you should give and take from everyone in day to day life..! the psychological reaction you experience when you’re in a culture very different from your own. This probably isn’t going to be a big surprise to anyone, but culture influences communication. What? You mean that not everybody in the world communicates the same way? Nope. And I’m not just talking about what language you speak. Culture, the shared set of expectations, ideologies, and productions within a society, has a dramatic impact on pretty much every aspect of our lives. This is especially true of interpersonal communication, the direct exchange of information between two or more people, which is different than, say, sharing information using mass media outlets like newspapers.
Interpersonal communication is all about the direct interaction between people and this means working with dozens of cultural rules. Who is allowed to talk? When? Where? What do you do with your hands? Where do you look? How much do you say? Communication is a lot more than just knowing what to say, it’s about knowing a culture.Perception of self and others ( chapter 3)Perception of self esteem take a jumbled set of lines and colours that enter our eye and transform them into a meaningful representation of the world. Out of features i build objects, and out of objects, i build categories and classifications for items, objects, plants and people in the world around us. Mental imagery allows us to remember what we have seen and to work with and manipulate relationships in order to solve certain problems. Our senses play a large role in how we perceive things. When i see, hear, taste, touch, or smell something it adds to your experiences and perceptions.
How i (our feelings, our relationships, our reactions, and our beliefs) all influence and help in shaping and managing our perceptions. The movie The Truth about Cats and Dogs shows many examples of how the human mind works and how we develop perception.Self-Perception is a process by which i come to know and think about myself (the characteristics, qualities, and inner states that we attribute to ourselves).
By attributing stable traits and enduring characteristic to myself, i feel i amp better able to understand our behaviour and chart our future actions. There are many different perceptions that we have of our self whether it is mental or physical.Shortcuts in judging people is illustrated, may lead to misinterpretations. It’s a must to know what these are in order to recognize how to perceive properly.
The relationship between perception and individual decision making is elaborated which shows the importance of perception.Self Concepts and Self Awareness ( Pg 52-55)One of the most important factors in building your self esteem and confidence is your self awareness. … Being self aware is knowing: What you want in your life. Your strengths and weaknesses.
I believe problems in life make you more aware of who you are so that you can develop physically, mentally and spiritually. Each experience can be a learning experience and help us move in the right direction, if we allow it. Becoming self aware is an ongoing process.
Make it your priority to get to know yourself, your dreams, achievements, strengths and weaknesses. If you want to change your life in any way you need to know yourself before you can act. You need to know what you need to do to head in the right direction and you can’t do that until you know yourself. In addition, being self aware will mean that you will be better able to choose a suitable career and lifestyle which will satisfy you. Self awareness can enrich your quality of life because you can then move closer to living your values and realizing your dreams.Becoming self aware does not mean being selfish – it is simply a stepping stone in reaching your true potential and living a life full of purpose and meaning.
Discovering the inner you will enable you to give more of yourself to others and this will benefit your relationships as well as helping to build your self esteem and confidence as you become truer to yourself.
