Peter’s Personal Life Experience

The following will be a narration of a story that my friend Peter has undergone throughout his life. He has passed through many challenges which he solved miraculously with the help of a children’s home. The story will be a learning lesson to many who are almost giving up due to difficulties they are undergoing through.  I believe the story will not only be interesting but will also be a learning experience to many.“God, I can’t imagine that all this is mine. I now belief that nothing in every cloud there is a silver lining”. Peter thought alone in his house, a fully furnished two bed roomed house in the upper market estate in the city.

Peter aged only thirty years had gone through a lot of hard times. As a child, he lost his father to the deadly HIV when he was only twelve years and in standard seven. They were five children and Peter was the eldest and he always remembered that day with a lot of sadness. He finished his primary studies and joined secondary school through the efforts of his mother whose only economic activity was to sell charcoal and a charity organization which used to assist orphans by paying half of their school fees. His mother, a lonely woman with a big heart used to give him encouragement and always reminded him that he was the only hope she had in life.

With this regard, Peter worked very had and scored a good grade which enabled him to proceed to the university where he studied accounting. When he was in his second year, Peter lost his mother who had fought bravely against the HIV for many years but lost the war. Peter was there when his mother passed away and he always remembered his mother’s last words, “my son, take care of your little ones and never lose hope” and he was so devastated. He could not imagine how he was going to live without her mother who was the sole breadwinner and her only source of energy. He looked at their four young siblings as tears run down his checks. “How are we going to survive” he asked himself. “Oh! God why are you so unfair to us”. He knew that the uncles who were eager to grab his parents’ property will come for it and take all the property that his parent had accumulated over the years since they always wanted to take advantages of the situation.

He prayed very hard that the law of the land would intervene to save their property from being grabbed by their relatives.Sure enough, after the funeral ceremony when the relatives left, Peter’s uncles came for their only cow that used to give them milk. As if that was not enough, they told Peter that they could not continue to cultivate the piece of land their mother used to cultivate. Peter tried to seek for assistance from the local assistant chief but he turned a deaf ear to him. Peter could not continue with his education because he had to take care of his siblings so, he had to do manual work to feed them. Life became so miserable that Peter at one time contemplated suicide. He dreaded going back in the house to meet four hungry little kids waiting, crying for food and always wished that his parents were around but they could not come back. As he slept, he wished that somehow tomorrow should not come because he had no energy to face another day but, tomorrow always came and he found himself always going out to work.

One day has he was coming back from his usually job hunts when he met his college mate John who was on vacation but had heard about Peter’s plight. He advised him to talk to a certain Social organization called Child rescue. Peter contacted them immediately; and they were very touched by the whole issue and advised him to contact them after two weeks.

Peter contacted them and they agreed to take his two sisters and his two brothers where they were admitted at a children’s’ home they were running. Peter on the other hand was re-admitted to the university to complete his education. He could not belief his luck of finding an organization to provide all that.

Peter studied very hard knowing that that was his only chance to a better living. Two years later, Peter graduated with an honors degree in accounting and he was lucky to find a placement immediately as he joined Britak International, which is one of the best accounting firm in the country. He was employed as an assistant tax manager and the position came with a house, a car loan and a lucrative salary. Life suddenly become very good and Peter finally settled and started working and enjoying life.

He went for his brothers and sisters who were being taken care at the children home and  promised to take great care of them, as this was all his wished to do to them. He was delighted when they all joined high school and then proceed to colleges for high education. He knew that even their uncles were feeling ashamed as they had begged him to go back so that they reconcile but he had never replied them.As Peter sat in his seat sipping juice, he reflected back and thanked God. He knew that in every cloud, there is a silver lining and that no matter how hard things seem to be; one should not give up because the only people who make it in life are the ones who keep their hopes alive and have self determination. I believe the story was not only interesting, but was also a learning experience to many.
