From et Spes, 1977). Knowing this, a mother

From the Womb to the Tomb Abortions are a choice that is completely up to the mother. There are many different opinions on abortion around the world and many of which are not the right choice according to God and the church. To many including myself, abortion is a decision a mother should not have to make. A young fetus is still a living fetus and killing it through abortion can be related to killing it after birth, this being the opinion of myself and catholic church. No matter what, a fetus in a mother’s womb is created by God should be giving the right to life and should be treated with utmost respect. “God, the Lord of life, has entrusted, to men the noble mission of safeguarding life… Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.”(Gaudium et Spes, 1977). Knowing this, a mother should not have to decide weather to kill her child or not. Aswell the social justice issue surrounding abortion comes from equal rights for poor and wealthy women. Poor women should be given the same options as women with  money when it comes to these choices. With so many opinions around the world, between religion and politics, of when life starts, and the effects they have on the mother,  the decisions having to be made by these mothers is very difficult.Awareness:During the early 1800s, Abortion was mostly illegal through the common law. During the late 1800s many campaigns arose surrounding abortion claiming them as very dangerous. It wasn’t until 1973 that abortion was legalized in america. Today,  so many different women are choosing abortions making it a very difficult issue to take on. There are about 31 abortions per 100 live births: roughly 330,000 live births and 100,000 abortions each year in Canada. In America there are around 1.2 million abortions each year. A wide range of women undergo abortions. About 50% are under 25; 64% are single, and 45% have children. Over 90% of abortions in Canada are done in the first trimester; only 2-3% are done after 16 weeks. With these facts it can be shown just how big and common this issue has become. It has become a social justice issue as well in that women who are poor are looking for the cheapest alternative, which is abortion. They are practically forced to kill their children because they are deprived of their social rights to make a choice, based on they’re income. Since abortion is the cheapest alternative for women unable to support a child, the government uses it as a method of gaining a lot of money from these poor women. Mother Teresa states “It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish.”(goodreads, 2018) and i can be said that she states this relating to the women who choose the abortions, women struggling from poverty. Many women have enough resources to raise a child however many other reasons for their choosing arise. They may be a single mother or they may not be in the correct mental state to raise a child. “No woman has an abortion for fun.”(Elizabeth Joan Smith). Women don’t necessarily want to have an abortion it is that they are given very little information on any other alternatives such as adoption or temporary foster care. The catholic church’s opinion on abortion is that from the moment of conception, a fetus is a living person and creation of God, therefore giving it the full right to life. This even applies to a child that is conceived from rape or incest. The catholic church has always opposed abortion as it is a practice that violates both natural and divine law. It is also believed through the catholic church that abortion is dangerous towards a mother and overall towards a society. Pope John Paul II in his encyclical Evangelium Vitae has maintained that the Bible forbids abortion and that it is a great evil. “Laws which legitimize the direct killing of innocent human beings through abortion or euthanasia are in complete opposition to the inviolable right to life proper to every individual; they thus deny the equality of everyone before the law.” (Evangelium vitae, 1995). There are two main opinions about abortion in our world, there is the pro-life opinion and the pro-choice opinion. The pro-life opinion is one that the catholic church follows and is that all life is sacred even the life of a fetus. The pro-choice opinion is one that believes women have the choice weather they want to have an abortion or not. All catholics follow the pro-life opinion and that abortion is something that shouldn’t exist on earth. “Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains forever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole end…no one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being” (Donum vitae, 5).Analysis:Abortion is an issue that comes to existence through the very personal choice a mother has to make. Making this choice is for most women a very difficult one to make and there are many reasons that could propel them to wanting to make this decision. Many women don’t have the financial stability to support the child, being unable to offer a decent standard of life. Fathers of the children often leave as well, fearing the cost and time required for raising a child.  Many pregnancies are unwanted and therefore women believe abortions are the quickest and cheapest way to relieve their stress. Keeping a child could increase this amount of stress and lead to various physical or mental conditions that endanger the woman’s health. Unwanted pregnancies can also come from rape and incest, further propelling the mother to not want the child. Aswell many women use abortion to prevent the birth of a child with birth defects or severe medical problems. All of these reasons are immediate and propel innocent, and possibly very young women into making the immoral, unethical decision of abortion. Abortion is a moral problem and has traditional religious based morality contradicting it. The conflict of abortion constituted a blend of concerns for sexual morality and the sanctity of motherhood. God made us human in his image and called for us to follow him. Every mother made by God is to birth and raise their child, and most importantly to sustain the life of their child. “Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.”(Integrated Catholic Life, 2012). With abortion, the mother is practically killing their own child completely going against the morality of the catholic church and the ways of God. Knowing the depth of this issue many questions can be asked but there is only one that should be asked, how can women prevent abortions from happening in the first place? This is the most easy to answer yet affective question that can be asked about abortion. The root cause of abortion is lack of chastity. So the answer for this question is simple, chastity for the women until she wants and is able to support a child. When it comes to rape or incest, to abort the child would still be going against the catholic morals so other options like adoption should be used. The catholic social teaching, life and dignity of the human person, proclaims that all human life is sacred and worth protecting. This teaching is the basis of all catholic social teaching and abortion goes against this through killing an innocent child. These are the catholic viewpoints of abortion and they are the morally and ethically right viewpoints.Action: Abortion is an issue that is very common among various women today. With so many occuring every year, almost 1.2 million in america, it can be shown just how big of an issue in today’s society it has become. Clearly not enough awareness is being spread about the size of this issue because it only seems to be getting worse. At this rate abortion could keep getting more and more popular, meaning many more fetuses and living beings being killed every day. Many catholics and followers of the catholic church have spread the negatives of abortion but it is not even close to being enough to stop the issue all together. The pope and many of his followers continue to spread the importance and sacredness of human life in our world, however many women are still choosing abortions because of how cheap, quick and easy they are to perform. As humans is it our moral responsibility to respect and follow the importance of human life. Abortion kills innocent, living fetuses so by letting this occur it is all humans failing their responsibility. “The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity.” (Leo Tolstoy) There are many, much safer alternatives to adoption, that benefit both the mother and the child. The easiest and most popular permanent alternative to abortions is placing a baby up for adoption. Adoption allows the child to be born, live safely and allows the child to have a good life in the hands of a trusting family. This provides an opportunity for a couple who may not be able to raise their child to their full potential. If a mother doesn’t want permanent adoption for her baby, temporary foster care is another option. The child is taken care of by another willing family until the mother is able to provide good care. These awareness of these alternatives is not nearly spread and promoted enough in our society. By working together as humans, promoting these better alternatives and providing good education to these mothers we can allow them, if considering abortion,  to make the right choices according to God, the catholic social teachings, and the human race, for an unborn child’s life. “Looking at politics of the world, all I may say is I have noticed that everyone who is for abortion, has already been born!” (Usman Aman)Personal reflection and conclusion:The issue of abortion in our society today is to say the less a very surprising one. It has been proven many times, just how bad of a procedure it is in terms of the health issues, the morals of the catholic church, and about humanity in general. With all of these negatives surrounding it, i found it a surprise that so many women still choose abortions for their children. I soon found that this was the case because of the lack of information on alternatives to abortion. Abortion is the cheapest and easiest way to eliminate an unwanted pregnancy so i believe this is why it is so common and its alternatives aren’t shared. All life is sacred, every human has the dignity to life, and this has been the word of God for all of eternity. Killing a fetus is the same as killing anything else that is living, therefore it is completely going against the word and catholic social teachings of God. The future of abortion is not a good one, it will continue to grow unless we as human take a stand. We are all humans and this includes fetuses so it is our responsibility to look after each other. By working together and spreading the message of God and the more safe and morally correct alternatives to abortion like adoption and foster care, we can eliminate abortion all together
