Types of Poems
elegy or dirge
poem or lame tfor the dead; something composed in elagic couplets
lyric or meditative poem
a poem that explores an idea or image
mood poem
a poem that creates an atmosphere
narrative poem
tells a story about a person or an event
pastoral poem
a poeam dealing with shepherds, flocks, nature and love and such
second person
the speaker adresses the listeners directly, using “you”
a specific event to which a poem refers to or responds
conversation between characters– In poetry , may not be placed in quotation marks
the one the speaker speaks to in some poems not neccesairly the audience
a series of events or story “line”
the general time and place that may provide the context of a poem
