INNOVATIONS IN HEALTH AND MEDICINEIn our life, health is the most important thing. In order to have a happy life you should take care of your health and then all the other things will “flow” itself.
Good health is the biggest blessing that the life could give to us. But what happen to those who aren’t blessed by life? It’s true that they aren’t blessed but this doesn’t mean that they can do nothing about it. Taking medicines is one of the most used ways to keep a bad health in control. Medicines have been there all the times since antiquity till nowadays. For sure, as time passes things change and new innovations are made in order not to only help us to control the bad health but also to recover and to destroy “the bad health”. There is a real need for more innovation in health care and in medicine so to have better access, faster diagnosis and treatment, more convenience and so on. The challenge we face nowadays is the call for more novel approaches that means the call for greater innovations.Last few years there have been many innovations in health which have brought bigger changes in life.
In fact 2016 is known to have been one of the biggest years for healthcare technology ever, with innovation in medical devices, software, and changes in how healthcare is administered, both from a care and financial perspective. These healthcare innovations have made our life easier. Some of the biggest innovations are: robotic nurse assistant-this has made the life of nurses easier because these robots known as RIBA(Robot for Interactive Body Assistance) can lift up or set down a human from or to bed or wheelchair; artificial retinas-a sophisticated and elegant solution intended to restore the sight of people who have lost vision due to retinal disease; anti-aging drugs-the diabetes drug metformin extends the life of animals and now it is believed to have the same effects in humans. With all those innovations that are made to “extend” the life and to keep the bad health in control, the future seems to be bright but more robotic than humanistic. All those innovations in health are helped by innovations in medicine. Thankfully for patients and providers medicine doesn’t stop moving. Ongoing innovations continue to advance the treatment of countless conditions through a better understanding of the human body and new therapies from head transplant (which is the most difficult transplant) to invention and creation of new antibiotics.
The first head transplant has been scheduled for 2017. On December 2017 all the people were shocked by this great, unbelievable and horror transplant which is made to improve someone’s quality of life. Even though dangerous bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics faster than new ones are being developed this mean that the improvement of antibiotics discovery is a little bit slowly than other innovations. Only two new antibiotics reached the marked the last 20 years because new antibiotics are hard to be discovered and generating data required and other equipments is difficult and expensive. To conclude, the innovations in health and medicine are improving even though not as faster as it needs to be. Since we are living in a period of time where diseases and infections have risen to a bigger scale, these innovations should be a little bit faster.
But even with this rate of improvement these innovations have made many people now to live healthier, longer and to have more active and independent lives. These are also improving the productivity and efficiency of healthcare systems. All these improvements are responsible for increasing the life expectancy in many disease areas allowing people to remain integrated and socially active members of society.
This all can be concluded with a citation from Megan Smith: INNOVATION COMES UT OF GREAT HUMAN INGENUITY AND VERY PERSONAL PASSIONS!
