It can be argued that the performance of rituals during the Shang Dynasty contain many singularities as well as similarities with other societies. One singular aspect of the Shang ruler, was the use of ritual symbols such as vessel. These bronze vessels were necessary for the performance of rituals. At the same time, ritual performed during the Shang Dynasty, were restricted done by royalty. This type of ritualistic objects are not common in other societies.
At the same time, many elite burials in China can have many similarities with the ones in Mesopotamia and Egypt. Although somehow similar, burial rituals differ from society to society. In Mesopotamia, the Royal Tombs of Ur show an overview of the great wealth of the ruler. In Egypt, the construction of massive buildings such as the pyramids, was pivotal to the show the power of the king.
