John HayesMs. Wright Language Arts 718 January 2018Argumentative EssayViolent video games have an effect that can affect kids and even adults physically and mentally. Violent video games are known to have an effect on children’s behavior. This is not good for the child because if they have anger problems when they get older it might make it harder for them to get a job or hold a relationship. This can make the person very depressed and feel hopeless. Violent video games should be banned because they can cause physical or mental problems. Some violent video games cause seizures or anger issues. This can affect these kids in the future or even in the present.Violent video games cause anger issues to adults and children. According to Harvard Medical School, they say that “The Pew Research Center reported in 2008 that 97% of youths ages 12 to 17 played some type of video game, and that two-thirds of them played action and adventure games that tend to contain violent content. A separate analysis found that more than half of all video games rated by the ESRB contained violence, including more than 90% of those rated as appropriate for children 10 years or older. This shows that more people play violent video games which cause mental problems to people. Video games can also be addicting according to it says “The GPS readout took Mudry to the vast parking lot of a suburban shopping center, about 14 miles west of Lanza’s home. Workers at a movie theater there immediately recognized Lanza from a photograph. He was at the theater constantly, they told Mudry, but never to see movies. He came to the lobby to play an arcade game, the same one, over and over again, sometimes for eight to 10 hours a night. Witnesses said he would whip himself into a frenzy, and on occasion, the theater manager had to unplug the game to get him to leave. This shows that violent video games cause addiction and anger problems.Violent video games also cause depression and anxiety. My facts came from where it said “The results are discouraging. The latest study, published Monday in the journal Pediatrics, followed 3,000 students in the third, fourth, seventh and eighth grades in Singapore. Children who were more impulsive and less comfortable with other children spent more time playing video games, the study found. Two years later, these heavy gamers, who played an average of 31 hours a week, compared with 19 hours a week for other students, were more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, and social phobias. They were also more likely to see their grades in school drop and have worse relationships with their parents. So children have a higher chance of getting depression if they play violent video games.Violent video games have some benefits to children but have more things that could harm the children then benefit them. Violent video games relieve stress and boost children’s learning in school but it builds up anger and creates addictions to the games to the point where they will not stop when their told and may be rude to others when they lose. This can hurt other people’s feelings and make them depressed. If children are addicted they might not stop playing then starve to death. All and all violent video games could affect kids in very dangerous ways so that’s why they should be banned.Violent video games cause mental and physical problems to people. They could hurt people in many different ways. This could cause addiction or depression. Some people might reenact something that happened in a game that could potentially hurt somebody or even kill someone. It is important that we discuss this because if we don’t stop this soon it could get worse. This could affect people’s lives and could affect the economy to the point where it can’t be fixed. This could end a lot of jobs and make many more people live on the streets. With all of these things that could happen violent video games should be banned.
