Fear is a primary emotion that has been encountered by a wide amount of people at least once or twice in their lives. Terror acts instantly it will stiffen the muscles with rapid heartbeats and other bizarre side effects. It goes under many names, horror, and fright. Nevertheless, some people take pleasure in the high levels of physiological arousal and sensation of being scared to their bones; hence, thriving on it. Yet, it is the complete opposite to others.
After reading a selection of books by the phenomenal work of Stephen King; I can say for myself that horror in the most uncontrollable emotion. Being afraid shoots a large adrenaline that rushes into the bloodstreams, and it causes a range of effects. When authors or filmmakers decide to write; they take these hysterical fears to their advantage. Be it clowns or enclosed spaces. As a result, a rapid change in the blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, dry mouth, shortness of breath. Another result is, when an uncontrollable shiver hits, hairs on the back of one’s neck starts to rise, looking over their shoulder, and under their feet as the story progresses with a roller coaster of eeriness. In contrast, another group of people who for them horror causes this feeling in an unpleasant way. Thus, one gets triggered by their phobias causing them to experience severe anxiety and panic attacks.
For some highly sensitive people, they loathe anything that involves gore and horror; it is literally their worst nightmare. Because they react differently to this type of content and can be easily overstimulated which leaves them unsettled for days. Since these individuals are more likely to have frightful images like the gore, or the anticipation and psychological trauma. This results in something unpleasant to these viewers which is: horror. Even more, it could be the fact that some horror movies are based on a true story which makes the real possibility that the viewers do not want to be reminded of. Consequently, these group of people’s bodies interprets the reaction to stress almost like a panic attack with a sudden, gripping feeling accompanied by physical and physiological reactions to horror films. Such as increased sweating, trembling legs, twitching stomach. Moreover, cold hands, dry mouth, dizziness, and hyperventilation.

In conclusion, the strange exotic feeling and the psychological thrill in horror movies and books is what captivates the audience. The horror genre is quite artistic in a bizarre way, but that only if it was portrayed in the right way. There is a fine line between too much gore and violence which could sabotage the whole experience.
