The strength of wrist pin is usually proportionate to its weight. Most of the pins are plated using chromium in order to improve the wearing qualities. They are lubricated using the forced oil splash that is drilled through the passages in the connecting rods or either by external oil spray nozzles within the system. Properly clamming on the end of the connecting rod.Ensuring pin is free to rotate between the piston and connecting rod.Based on the movement of the pin between the piston and connecting rod, the wrist pin can be classified into three categories:Stationery pin: this type of pin is secured tightly between the piston and connecting rod moves on the pin due to which there is uneven wear and tear due to contacting surface. Such type of pins is suitable for Navy diesel engine.Semi-floating pin: This type of pin is secured in between the connecting rod and the ends of the pin is free to move in the piston bearings.
Full floating pin: This type of pin is not secured to the piston or connecting rod. They are held in place using the caps, spring clips, snap rings or plugs. The pin is able to move in both the direction towards the rod and the piston bearings. This is the most widely used types of the pin when compared to other two.

During its operation, these pieces with time start getting hard and the finished product has a high-quality surface with a high tolerance level. The surface of the pin is hardened using carburizing or nitride as they are known for reducing the overall residual stress on the surface of the pin.
