Statement of Purpose NAME : R.Nitish ReddyAPPLIED FOR : MS Mechanical Engineering Graduate study is a significant milestone in the perpetual journey of education. With due reverence to the department and the university, I pen down the statement of purpose. This statement is an attempt to project my credentials as an aspiring researcher, my achievements as a Mechanical undergraduate and my ambitions. I chose Industrial Engineering for one simple reason – this is what I want to do. Born in a family related to Manufacturing companies, I was exposed from an early age to the intricacies of trade. Although I can join any hardcore mechanical company immediately after graduation I believe I would not be doing justice to my education if I were to take the easier way out. My long-term career goal of carrying out independent industrial research has prompted me to apply for Masters in Industrial Engineering after doing an undergraduate course. Mechanical Engineering, as a field has always fascinated me and I have always been influenced by the current innovations in the field because it is challenging and has applications related to many fields. As I undertook the courses, projects and seminars of this program, I found myself increasingly interested in the application of computers to the fields of Design and manufacturing systems. I undertook various challenging projects and assignments in this field which have given me an insight into the aspects related to industries and also have helped me know the limitations of my knowledge. This was also the main motivating factor behind my opting for the graduate studies. I feel a Masters’ degree in Industrial Engineering will bring specialization and perfection to my gamut of expertise and knowledge and help me in fulfilling my dream. Throughout my ten years of school life and two years of high school study, I have maintained a consistent and good academic record. Coming to extra-curricular activities, beside participation I secured nine awards of merit in different inter house competitions and secured four awards of merit at sports. I had an excellent and consistent career graph throughout my school life. I always stood among the meritorious students in my class. I secured 72% in my 10th grade and 71% in my 12th grade. I pursued my bachelor of technology degree at Sree Nidhi Institute of Science and Technology, one of the best academic institutions in Hyderabad. With good teaching and laboratory facilities, my college has laid primary emphasis to fundamentals both theoretical and practical on a wide range of subjects, which gave me a thorough understanding of essential features of the subjects and substantial motivations for research. Luckily, during my stay at the Engineering College, the things have shaped on the lines of my thinking. The college curriculum for this Engineering major is vast and touched several aspects of Mechanical Engineering with special emphasis on Engineering Mechanics, Design of Machine Members, Thermal Engineering, Kinematics of machinery, Automation in Manufacturing, Robotics, CAD/CAM, Operations Research, Managerial economics & financial research and Industrial Management. The study at the college was rewarding and laid a solid foundation in me over the subject and enhanced my enthusiasm. My professors were highly appreciative of my performance particularly in the practical field as well as my communication skills in the classroom, participation at national level Technical Symposiums. I was the winner of the robotic event “wrestlemania” held during “Kriya 2007” at the Vasavi collage of Engineering. I also was a part of the team which won the best design award for designing a robot for the event “Kurukshetra” held at the National level robotics symposium “Roboveda- 2007” . During my course of under graduation I had an opportunity of doing a mini project at PLANET INDIA REMEDIES PVT LTD which is situated in Hyderabad as a part of my curriculum. I had done my major project in NUCLEAR FUEL COMPLEX which is situated in Hyderabad, for a period of two months on “DEVELOPMENT OF AN AUTOMATED TUBE HANDLING SYSTEM FOR A SPECIAL PURPOSE APPENDAGE WELDING MACHINE”. My earnest desire to continue my further studies at your graduate school stems from the fact that it is one of the best universities in the USA having a long time record of academic excellence and is backed by expert faculty and very good research facilities. I am convinced that my study at your department would be a meaningful and rewarding experience.. Your graduate program blends high quality course work and research facilities at the cutting edge of every sub-field. These factors distinguish your university from the others. In all, it is a comprehensive university that furnishes an education that will serve me well in my career and prepare me for a lifetime of learning. I believe the programs offered will help me acquire the versatility needed to reach my full potential as an industrial engineer At this moment I am confident of my abilities, competence and dedication in reaching my goal. I am fully convinced that my potential will be groomed to a well-designed capacity to produce research of high quality under the expert guidance of distinguished faculty at your university. I hope you find my purpose definitive and I fit into the image of a promising student. I look forward to prove myself. R. Nitish Reddy.
