The digital multi metre is a tool that is used to usually measurevoltage (measured in volts), current (measured in amps) and resistance(measured in ohms). This tool is generally used by technicians to detectproblems in circuits. This device converts analogue information into a digitalsignal. The front of the digital multi metre usually has four parts to it.
First of all there is the display screen this is where all the measurements canbe seen. The buttons are used to select the different kinds of functions. Therotary switch is used to choose the correct measurement value. Finally theinput jacks is where the leads are placed in.
At times when either battery in the digital multi metre is low it couldgive an inaccurate reading. Moreover the digital multi metre has differentsettings for the AC and DC ranges. When testing a piece of equipment you needto make sure that it’s in the correct position otherwise it would giveinaccurate readings. Sometimes the red and black probe may be placed in thewrong place which can lead to incorrect results. When taking the measurement of resistance you should ensure that allpower is switched off. When measuring current it should be selected to thesuitable current range otherwise the multi metre fuse will blow.
The circuitneeds to be completely disconnected before being attached to the multi metre.When finished using the multi metre it must be turned off. When being used youshould always start off with the maximum voltage. The multi metre needs to bein series with the circuit for when current is being measured. The multi metreneeds to be parallel to the circuit for when voltage is being measured. Digital multi metres are better than analogue multimetres because they produce more precise readings.
Moreover they reduce readingerrors. Accuracy is improved because of the digital display and LCD screen.The digital multi metre runs on a battery. When thebattery starts to dim the writing on the screen becomes difficult to read. Themulti metre is expensive to buy.
There is a limited voltage on the multi metretherefore if increased over the maximum the metre will be destroyed.
