Leaders of the world, ladies and gentlemen. Global Warming is happening. There are many of you that deny this saying it is a ‘myth’. The evidence has been analysed, the results are substantional. Global Warming is happening. If I said that the ice glaciers would have all melted by 2040, you would laugh in my face.
The jokes on you. The effects of this would be catastrophic. This would raise the sea levels by up to 10 metres. All coastal cities and towns would be submerged, causing death and destruction. You feel your economies are more important than this? Imagine the effect this would have on them? Rehousing the homeless, rebuilding your cities, rebuilding your economies.
Whose fault would this be, you may ask? The answer is everyone sitting beside you. All of your countries produce hundreds of tonnes of carbon emissions every year. And what about the Third World countries? They have done little to contribute to the greenhouse effect, and yet they are affected the most. Global temperatures have risen on average by 1.4oC since 2000. In some parts of Africa they have risen by up to 2.5oC.
The people of these countries can barely survive in their countries due to drought, famine, poverty and their corrupt governments, but raise the temperature by 2.5oC? This would make it harder than before to get water and any scraps of food, harder to survive. And what’s more the temperatures will keep rising. The world will turn into an inhospitable desert.So. How do we deal with this? We have to use non-polluting ways to power our factories, our houses. This would be expensive, but can you put a price on life? We can run our vehicles using hydrogen fuel cells.
They do it in Iceland, Why can’t we do it? You can put solar panels on top of houses skyscrapers, anything! All of this would help us build a better future for our descendents. Scientific research has shown that the ozone layer can heal itself. We just need to give it that opportunity. We have to encourage our citizens to cut down on their energy uses. Something as simple as walking instead of taking the car will help reduce pollution. As well as stopping pollution, they will also be getting some exercise which would also help cut down the obesity problem.
Keeping to the speed limit can also help the environment. The more you speed the more petrol you are going to use, making the pollution higher. Also 4x4s make about six times their own weight in CO2 each year.
A small efficient diesel car covering the same distance not only uses much less fuel; it makes two thirds less. Finally encourage your citizens to turn off unused sources of power such as televisions and heaters as this will help the environment, as well as them money. You see these are all very simple things which we can do to stop the awaiting destruction. There’s no point a few of us doing it, we all need to.
We need to set our differences aside and focus towards one common goal. To save our planet.
