The society we live in today isn’t as good as it could be. We judge one another based on our own opinions and we usually base these opinions based off of certain stereotypes. Some people assume overweight people are lazy and don’t want to exercise when in fact they could be overweight due to a medical condition.
Some people assume homeless people are lazy and don’t want to work when in fact they could have been rich and fallen on hard times and lost their job and home. Many homeless people walk around with mental issues and can’t help their circumstances. I am pretty sure no one would chose to be homeless or overweight. Most people never take the time and put themselves in another person shoes to find out why they are in the a certain situation often times they just assume. In my opinion if we as a society took the time to talk and ask the person instead of assuming we would get a better understanding of other people’s lives. We could I learn a lot of different things from each other.
I have many experiences where society would go against me but I had to be determined to make myself have a voice to prove them wrong. Throughout this paper I will be discussing how society did not agree or would judge me in different situations and how they would think one thing when it was completely wrong. Statistics show that 40% of the world’s population use online social media. On an average we spend around 2 hours a day on social media that means we tweet around half a million tweets and Snapchat photos shared every minute. The most common statement our elders make today is that social media is a waste of time and its bad for us. I disagree with this statement 100%, my reasoning is because I’ve learned more on what’s going on in the world and different information on social media then at my own school. If it wasn’t for social media I would’ve had no idea about the things I am currently doing to make money.
I use social media as a marketing tool to promote myself and my products. Without social media it would just have to be word of mouth, but that wouldn’t take me far. If I wanted to expand my business around different states, the process would take much longer by word of mouth rather than using social media and finding those in the areas that you would like to be known. I’ve been told multiple times that social media is unhealthy. But I strongly disagree, people use social media to vent about everything from customer service to politics, but the downside to this is that our feeds often resemble an endless stream of stress. It’s always easier to hide behind a screen and vent to social media, most of the time they do it as a stress reliever to express themselves and also find other people who have been through something similar or are going through the same thing. On social media you can express yourself in multiple ways, showing off the things you have or even telling the world how you feel.
Most people don’t express themselves because they think they’ll feel embarrassed or they’re worried about what others will think of them, but its harder to feel embarrassment on the internet than in person, that’s why most people feel better venting on social media. It’s also a way to learn about a person’s life and also be apart of it, there’s many ways to learn about someone’s lifestyle, seeing if you have mutual friends and seeing what they are into. My parents have always told me that I spend too much time on social media or my phone in general. But they think I am using it for entertainment reasonings but I actually use it for work purposes. As you can see social media isn’t all that bad, it’s actually how some people such as myself make revenue.
Different social media platforms pay you to post on their site. For example youtube, most popular youtubers make 80.5k – 1.5million monthly. They spend an abundant of time on it but as you can see its their way of life and how they are able to make a living. Ive been using social for about 11 years now, I also get paid to do certain things on social such as post videos and promote other people. It also helps me get in contact with different celebrities by the way I market myself. Being on social media helps you get different connections around the world and you meet all types of different people that you would never even see in person.
You learn about their culture and see how their lifestyle is different. Social media makes it a lot easier to keep in contact with family and friends, its an awesome tool to use especially if they live far away. We are in a generation now where almost every kid has a cellular device. Parents usually complain about it and how much time they spend on their phone.
Studies have shown that teens are spending more than one-third of their days using media such as online video or music nearly nine hours on average, according to a new study from the family technology education non-profit group, Common Sense Media. For tweens, those between the ages of 8 and 12, the average is nearly six hours per day. Even though it may seem like its a waste of time its actually not. Teens nowadays learn an abundant of information on their phones. Often times the younger generation has to teach our elders how to use them. Technology is becoming more advanced day by day, new creations, applications, and softwares. With the youth being on their phones a lot we are learning new things every day.
Having a cell phone handy can also help you eat better, finding different healthy foods and looking up whats good and bad for you. Some people even have a favorite website or app for healthy recipes. Also it’s great to record what you eat on your phone, something like a food journal, It’s easy and convenient. One study found that people who used their phones instead of paper and pen for this purpose were more likely to stick with their diet plan. I usually look up the things I eat before I put it in my body, because certain things you eat can get you sick, especially in other countries, thats why I think it’s a great thing to have cell phones. Phones are equipped with a GPS so no more worrying about getting lost, just pull out your phone and input your destination and you can travel anywhere you want to go without getting lost. If your child has a phone in their presence you don’t have to worry about them getting lost because you can locate them from the signal on their cell phone. We’ve all been in the position where we weren’t able to go to the store for some reason.
I’ve been in that position multiple times, either I was in trouble or I didn’t have a ride. An easier way to do it and not leave your house is through your phone. There’s thousands of applications you could use to order whatever you want. Another good thing is you don’t even have to leave your house to make purchases. Unlike being in the actual store you could compare prices online using other sites to save a lot of money. Sooner or later I believe that physical stores will soon go out of business one day because everyone will be doing online shopping since it saves time and money. We all need the internet if you manage your own company that sells merchandise.
E Commerce is upcoming and is only growing day by day. Me personally I manage multiple websites and in order to manage them I need my cellular device. Unlike a computer, you could take it everywhere you go and always be able to manage your business. Most people work online such as doing stocks and crypto currencies. To get the latest updates on the stock market you are going to need the internet and easy access to it. To end this paper I would like to show everyone how society judges people, its unfortunate that we do but that’s just the world we live in.
Multiple times we havent experienced other peoples life struggles or situations, so we judge based on what we think of it. We are just assuming with what we think is right. You cant judge someone from the choices they make if you dont know the options they had to choose from. So the next time you start to judge something or someone else, think about all the times you’ve judged yourself. We should judge others how we would want others judging us, with mercy and kindness.
You’re just one perspective and there are as many perspectives in the world as there are people. We all should choose our words carefully because we cover our words with judgment that are self-defeating, negative, and don’t help us get any closer to our actual goals. We need to recognize that we’re not the only ones making judgments, nor are any of the judgements that we make actual facts. Judgments are simply our way of seeing the world, which is just one perspective. To end this paper I would like to share a quote from Don Miguel Ruiz from his book, The Four Agreements. He said, “We make the assumption that everyone sees life the way we do. We assume that others think the way we think, feel the way we feel, judge the way we judge, and abuse the way we abuse. This is the biggest assumption that humans make.
And this is why we have a fear of being ourselves around others. Because we think everyone else will judge us, victimize us, abuse us, and blame us as we do ourselves. So even before others have a chance to reject us, we have already rejected ourselves.
That is the way the human mind works.”
