When thinking about a fire suppression system, the
first thing that comes to mind is fire sprinklers.  But fire suppression systems contain a lot
more than just fire sprinklers.  There is
a wide variety of fire suppression systems but can be put into two basic
categories.  Those categories include the
dry chemical system and the wet chemical system.  For example and fire sprinkler would go into
the category of wet chemical system.  An
example for a dry chemical system can be a fire extinguisher.  Now that we have an idea of this topic by
having an example of each category of a fire suppression system we will be
going more in-depth with these two categories.

            To start off
dry chemical systems is what it sounds like, it is the use of chemicals that stop
fire without using any water, hence being dry.
To be a little more specific a dry chemical system uses dry chemical
compounds.  These dry chemical system
suppressed fire effectively and provide efficient coverage.  A reason to be using a dry chemical system
according to http://www.femalifesafety.org
is because, “In applications where a dedicated water supply is not
available, dry chemical is an easy, affordable alternative to water and some
other agents”.  As you can see this is an
advantage where water is very easily accessible or where it can cause damage
such as computers.  From https://www.confires.com/fire-suppression-systems-types/
an example of a dry chemical systems that they provide include the FM-200 fire
suppression system.  This system was
created to keep electronics protected by discharging gas that absorbs the heat
and lowers the materials temperature below ignition point.

Now to the next category of wet
chemical system.  The wet chemical system
is what most people are used to these are your typical fire sprinklers, but
there is more than just fire sprinklers.
Wet chemical systems include any form of liquid chemicals that will suppress
fires. According to http://www.femalifesafety.org
for wet chemical systems it is an effective way for suppressing commercial
cooking fires before major damage.  It
also reacts quickly with cooking media such as fats and oils.  The wet chemical system also reduces
possibility of fire restarting.  So for
wet chemical systems would work where there wouldn’t be any damage that is
caused by water and or liquid chemicals.
From https://www.confires.com/fire-suppression-systems-types/
an example of a wet chemical system that they provide is a Foam fire
suppression system.  The foam works by
removing oxygen from the fire’s source and prevents fires from restarting

environments can benefit between these two categories, dry chemical and wet
chemical systems.  To find the right fire
suppression system for the specific environment you will need to look for some
certain factors.  Factors that should be
considered on which fire suppression system, dry chemical and wet chemical
system, that should be installed could be simply if there are anything that can
be damaged from water.  So an example
would be a computer lab, you would not want to install a wet chemical system
because potential damage of the electronics.
It would be better suited for a kitchen or a stadium where fires can be
quickly put out but won’t be causing any major damage.  Either way fire suppression systems should be
installed into buildings that need this requirement in cases of emergency, just
know what to install based on the environment.
